Selling

Selling at Auction

Auction is a simple, transparent, and efficient way of selling a complete range of items from a single object to a large collection, or even a complete household. We hold Antiques and Fine Art sales at Beverley Racecourse and others online only, and we will advise on which auction is most suitable for your items.

Valuations for Auction

We offer a free auction appraisal service, where we can discuss estimates and reserves if required. You can request a no obligation valuation appraisal in one of the following ways:

Online – You can use our online valuation form HERE

In-House – Bring your items to our office at Albion House, 18 Westgate, North Cave, Brough HU15 2NJ. We can provide you with auction estimates, provisional sale dates and explain the auction process. To arrange an appointment please contact the office on 01482 868193.

Home visits – Confidential visits to your home can be arranged for private collections, whole or partial house contents, and larger items that are difficult to transport. To make an appointment, please contact the office.

The Selling Process

  1. If after a valuation you have decided to consign your item(s) to us, we then set about to prepare the lot details for cataloguing. This involves taking photographs in detail, writing an accurate description, preparing a realistic condition report, reviewing the estimated pricing range and alerting specialist buyers on our database.
  2. Ten days before the sale you will be sent a pre-sale advice email. This will give details of how your lots will be described in our catalogue, so that you can check the details for your satisfaction.
  3. A week before the sale the online catalogue is published on three websites (www.hawleys.info) (www.the-saleroom.com) and (www.easyliveauction.com). These will include your lot(s).
  4. At the viewing day before the sale our hard copy colour catalogues are available at Beverley Racecourse for our clients who prefer a tangible copy of the Auction lots.
  5. On the day of the sale if you cannot attend, you can watch the auction live on our website and capture some of the thrill of bidders competing for your lot(s)!
  6. Two weeks after the auction you will be sent a Statement detailing the proceeds of your lot(s) and payment will be made by bank transfer directly into your account.

Commission Rates and Charges

All lots are charged a flat rate of £5 for full internet exposure over three bidding platforms and for inclusion in our colour printed auction sale catalogues.

Our commission charge for selling is 15% of the hammer price.

This charge is inclusive of insurance cover for loss or damage.

Please note that these charges are subject to VAT which is levied at the prevailing rate.

See our terms and conditions for complete information for sellers.

Other Services

Transport

For bulkier items and larger consignments, we can arrange transport and removal costs for you with our third-party carrier. We liaise with the carrier over the logistics and charge a rate of £35 + VAT per hour, including travel time to and from the pickup address, packing, unpacking, loading and unloading. All charges are discussed with you prior to any action being taken. The carriage fees will be deducted from your auction sale proceeds. Alternatively you may wish to make your own removal and transport arrangements directly.

House Clearances

Having to clear a property can be stressful. For small house or large estate clearances we have an experienced team who can help not only clear all items in a timely fashion but can maximise the return on the contents by identifying those items that are suitable for sale through the auction process, other items that are of lower value suitable for charity shop donation, and rubbish that needs to be disposed of in a cost effective and environmentally friendly way. Please contact our office to arrange for a free survey, we will visit the property and advise you on all aspects of both sale by auction and disposal of remaining items.
